USTOA , United States Tour Operators Association (USTOA) is a professional association representing the tour operator. It is composed of companies with tours and packages that encompass the entire globe and who conduct business in the U.S. USTOA was founded in 1972 by a small group of California tour operators concerned about bankruptcies in the industry. These founding members recognized the need for a unified voice to protect the traveling public, as well as to represent the interests of tour operators. In 1975, USTOA became a national organization with headquarters in New York.
USTOA members number among the top names in travel and represents the entire spectrum of vacation packages and tours available today. In fact, its member companies are responsible for the majority of tours and vacation packages sold by travel agents in the U.S.
Tour Operator Membership
To become an Active Member of USTOA, a tour operator is required to have a total of 18 references from a variety of industry sources and financial institutions and must meet specific minimums in terms of tour passengers and/or dollar volume. The company must also be in business at least three years under the same management in the U.S. and must carry a minimum of $1,000,000 professional liability insurance. Another important membership requirement is adherence to USTOA's strict code of ethics, which is framed by a pledge to encourage and maintain the highest standards of professionalism, integrity and service.
How to verify that we are a member of USTOA?
We are "Supplier Members" of USTOA, however USTOA do not publish a list of suppliers members on their website. Past customers have contacted them and they have confirmed our membership. USTOA has two categories of membership, Active and Supplier (Allied or Associate).
Active Members are American based wholesale tour operators who meet and fulfill a number of requirements for Active membership, including participation in the USTOA $1 Million Travelers Assistance Program. These Active Tour Operator members are listed on our home page at www.ustoa.travel.
Supplier members do not participate in that Program and are not listed on our website. Supplier members join USTOA in order to promote their countries or tour products to our Active Tour Operator Members who are covered by our $1 Million Plan.
We are pleased to mention that the company you mention, China Highlights, is a brand operated by our Allied member in good standing, Guilin China International Travel Service Co., Ltd, an Allied Ground Tour Operator member of USTOA since March 1999. The logo that you see is our new Supplier Member of USTOA logo which is being used appropriately.
