We stayed here at the start and end of our 20 day tour of Guizhou, Fujian and Shanxi destinations. The city has certainly grown and changed since our previous trips some years ago..
It's well worth spending at least half a day browsing the fabulous collection of Bronzeware, Jade, Sculpture and Pottery in the Shanghai Museum. Entry was free in April 2009 when we visited, but be prepared to wait in the queue while prebooked and tour groups get preferential entry.
Shopping in Nanjing Rd walking street is a must see, but prices there are on the rise as Shanghai develops. Be prepared to explore some of the back streets to see more of the real Shanghai. There's so much to see and do - all well set out in the many Shanghai tourist guides - so make sure you allow enough days to experience as much as possible.
The hotel is in a perfect location with an entry of Nanjing Rd. They had lost our booking so we were received an upgrade to a lovely suite each time we stayed here. All the amenities one could wish for were provided. Breakfast was included in our rate & a decent choice of western & asian food was available. There are a variety of restaurants in the hotel, but better value & authenticity can be found in local eateries.
