The sparsely populated Lantau Island is twice the size of Hong Kong Island. Ever since 70's, lots of Hong Kong residents have preferred to escape into Lantau Island for a refreshing rest during weekends and holidays. Visitors can explore its hilly walking trails, enjoy its crowded beach and inhale the fresh air. The most crowded place of the island is Tai O Town in the southwest.
Get there
Highway: Visitor can take a bus to the island at Tung Chung station of Tung Chung Railway. And from Kowloon to Tung Chung, they can either take E21 Bus at Olympic Station or take 31 Bus at Tsuen Wan. ( see Hong Kong Transportation Map )
Waterway: Visitor can take No.6 Terry at Central to Mui Wo and then transit to a bus (the running time for the ferry is from0:30 to 23:30 for Sunday and holidays and from 0:30 to 23:50 for the rest time. On weekends, there are also ferries running between Tsim Sha Tsul and Mui Wo.
