China has introduced modern Bullet Trains to its network as a result of the High Speed rail project of 2007. The average speed capability of Chinese railways in areas including Beijing, Guangdong province, and eastern China is 200km/h. The improvement in both speed and comfort makes touring by train a very viable option to flying.
Sightseeing by Train
The train from Xining to Lhasa is specially equipped for high altitude travel. Each car is equipped with an oxygen-supply system to maintain the air pressure at a suitable level. The service commenced in 2006 and offers more comfort than the regular trains without being a luxury tourist train. It is a great way to see the fascinating scenery between Xining and Tibet.
