Rongbuk Monastery is a good place for overlooking Mt. Everest. It’s only 25 kilometers straightaway from the Everest Peak. Rongbuk Monastery is the highest monastery on the earth, with an altitude of 5,100 meters (16728 feet). The monastery was built in 1899, as a Nyingmapa monastery since it was said that once Padmasambhava, founder of Nyingmapa, preceded his religious cultivation here. It is one of the very few monasteries that houses Lamas and nuns in the same monastery.
Further into the mountains, about 8.8 kilometers from the Rongbuk Monastery is Mt. Everest Base Camp. With the attitude 5180 meters (17000 ft), it is often regard as the last stop for common tourists and a start point for mountaineers trying to conquer the world's highest peak. You have to bring your own camping and cooking stuffs if you want to stay there. Enjoy a one moment beautiful sunset view here makes all your adventure and expense on the way desirable. Weather in the world's highest mountain range is rather unpredictable. Be sure to get yourself physically and psychologically well prepared. China Travel News
China will increase the fuel surcharge for flights between the mainland and the island city, Hong Kong. The increased cost of jet fuel causing by surging oil prices has necessitated the hike in the fuel surcharge.
The giant dam of the Three Gorges hydropower project on the Yangtze River saw completion on Saturday, 20, May, signifying a milestone achievement of major structure of the gigantic Three Gorge project.
The Qinghai-Tibet Railway will be put into trial operation on July 1. According to Ma Jiantang, deputy governor of Qinghai Province, five-star sight-seeing trains will run on the railway, with the fare reaching US$1,000 per day. Such trains will mainly open to overseas tourists according to the current plan.
The Simatai Great Wall, one of the sections of Great Wall north of Beijing, will be undergoing large-scale repairs this year.
The repairs, said an official of the Simatai scenic area, aims to reinforce some of the already loosening parts of the Great Wall.
