The Best Things to Do in Taiwan in November
With typhoon season over and summer heat gone, fall foliage shines across the island. Expect golden ginkgo and red maple trees. The pleasant weather makes November ideal for hiking, biking, and walking. Taiwan’s national parks also host seasonal festivals and activities worth experiencing.
1. Bike through Gorgeous Fall Foliage in Taichung
Given that Taiwan is relatively warm in November, there are great fall foliage scenes to enjoy. Around Taichung we suggest visiting Wuling Farm. There you can see maple trees, a beautiful golden gingko forest, and Chinese maples.

It’s possible to rent a bike to ride around the area or you could take the sightseeing bus. If you prefer you can also walk around the area.
In general, early November is a better time of the month to see the foliage. In late November many leaves might have already fallen off the trees. However, this is weather dependent and the schedule is not the same each year.
2. Hike Caoling Historic Trail and Attend Silver Grass Festival
November is peak season for silver grass in Taiwan. The silver grass covers the sides of hills and trails, giving a unique environment for a hike. We suggest visiting Caoling Historic Trail in New Taipei City. If you could catch the Silver Grass Festival, you would experience seasonal activities and guided walks. The date for 2025 is yet to be set, but is usually in the first half of the month.

The walk is suitable for all ages as it is not too intense. In general weekdays are best to avoid crowds as this dry time the year is popular with visitors. This is also because of the silver grass.
You can also see silver grass on the western peak of Da Tun Mountain. From there you will also have a great view over Taipei.
3. Listen to Music at the Taiwan PASIWALI Festival
The Taiwan PASIWALI Festival is the Amis indigenous people’s international music festival that is held every year in November. Its 2025 date has not been set fully, but the festival usually takes place in Taitung.
During the festival there will be lots of live music performances and cultural shows. You can expect various indigenous groups from all over the world, not just Taiwan. Representative groups from Austronesian regions such as Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Pacific Islands will attend.
Stalls sell handmade goods and snacks. It’s a great opportunity to learn a lot about Austronesian culture while enjoying live music and performances. You can even get involved with traditional craft demonstrations in a more hands-on manner.
4. Visit Shilin Residence during the Chrysanthemum Show
Shilin Residence, the former residence of Chiang Kai-Shek in Taipei, is great to visit in November. That’s because November is when the residence hosts the buzzing Shilin Residence Chrysanthemum Show.

The show-stopper pieces are intricate displays made of chrysanthemums. There are also sculptures and other floral arrangements, and big flower fields. The huge selection of colors will blow you away!
The 2025 dates for the show are still to be set. If you are interested in visiting, let us know. Our China Highlights experts can ensure to include a visit to the Shilin Residence Chrysanthemum Show as part of your tour.
While you are there, we also recommend visiting Shilin Night Market. There you can sample delicious Taiwanese drinks and authentic snacks. It’s also a great place to buy some gifts to take home to friends.
What to Wear in November
November’s weather is mild to warm, we recommand packing layers. Bring long trousers, shorts, or a summer dress to prepare for every eventuality. A jumper or cardigan is useful, especially later in the month or for early mornings and evenings.
For active travelers, pack hiking gear. An umbrella and sunscreen are good to have, along with a hat or sunglasses for sunny days. Supportive footwear is always a smart choice.
